Key attributes of a good agile business analyst
The following are the characteristics of a good agile business analyst.
Effective communication is an important necessity for a business. Business analysts need to be skilled at face-to-face communication, whether it's presenting data analysis reports in company meetings or explaining key concepts to senior management. In project management, open and clear communication is crucial, and it involves agile methods to drive business forward.
Problem solving skills
An agile business analyst must be a problem solver and find a solution to any problem. In some situations, problems cannot be solved on the first attempt and must be repeated many times to find a solution. Therefore, an agile business analyst must be stubborn enough to find the right solution to a business problem.
Being a critical thinker is an important characteristic of a business analyst. If the business analyst does not talk to every team member involved in the implementation and execution of the project and does not identify the reasons behind this need and how this need can help every team member and project manager, production and profits will eventually become saturated and stagnate. It is important to analyses the root cause of the problem, as looking at the problem from the outside will only produce superficial results and is meaningless.
Analytical thinking is important and is acquired through experience. An agile business analyst must have an analytical mind to find business solutions that increase production and profits. An analytical approach to problem solving forces the analyst to break down big problems into smaller activities and then solve them. In this way, the analytical approach enables effective solutions to be found and frameworks to be created.
Equally important is the modeling or visualization of the problem and the solution process. It is not enough for the analyst to have the solution in his head. He must also present it to the rest of the team. A visual representation of the solution is important because it helps to better understand the data.
Relationship building skills
Relationship-building skills involve building trust and bridging differences between stakeholders and team members from different disciplines. The business analyst has the responsibility to build trust between them.
The role of the agile business analyst
A business analyst plays a key role in software development; let's take a look at some key roles.
The agile business analyst examines the whole system from the first iteration to the deployment phase of the project. The business analyst works closely with the development team to understand product development and initial project requirements. The agile business analyst defines the scope of the project and helps identify areas for project automation.
Identifying business needs
The agile business analyst meets with stakeholders to understand their requirements and product vision, then translates the stakeholders' product vision into business needs and communicates this to team members to understand the customer's expectations for the project. Project stakeholder meetings are an iterative process, so the business analyst saves time for other team members, such as the development team, and spends a lot of time meeting with stakeholders to understand changes and updates to the customer's requirements.
Translating technical issues
The agile business analyst will work closely with the development team to understand the technical requirements of the project and help them understand the client's vision. The business analyst understands the technical requirements and explains the technical aspects to stakeholders and management. He/she therefore acts as a coordinator or translator between stakeholders and other team members and ensures that they understand each other.
Process modeling and documentation
The business analyst presents the client's requirements and business data in an easy-to-understand visualization format to clearly understand the business needs. The business analyst works with project stakeholders to model and document project requirements.
Updating project stakeholders
The role of the business analyst is to act as a representative of the project stakeholders, as the business analyst communicates his/her ideas and vision to the other project team members, and the business analyst also communicates project updates received from the development team to the project stakeholders to validate decisions and move forward. The business analyst communicates priorities to the project stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of the project in line with the client's wishes.
